LOTOS Music has ranked among well-established and reputed record and publishing companies in Czech Republic. Founded in 1992, it has since then built up a catalogue of over 120 titles, coupling the firm's principal focus on classical music with a hardly less keen interest in other domains, including jazz, folklore and ethnic projects. Significantly, LOTOS Music has so far produced close to thirty recordings featuring the world-famous violinist Josef Suk.

The company has likewise been collaborating on a regular basis with other leading artists and orchestras, both Czech and international, including the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Chamber Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia, the Wihan Quartet, the Stamic Quartet, Libor Pesek, Jiri Belohlavek, Zuzana Ruzickova, Shizuka Ishikawa, Magdalena Kozena, Jiri Barta, Ludmila Peterkova, Vladimir Mikulka, Jiri Stivin, Emil Viklicky, the Hradistan Ensemble, Jiri Pavlica, Ida Kelarova, Zuzana Lapcikova, and others.

Of formidable interest has been LOTOS Music's fruitful co-operation with international artists, in what has become a systematic effort for bringing together diverse ethnic cultural idioms and styles. In this pursuit, the company has scored a good many triumphs. Among other projects, in 1997 Roma singer Ida Kelarova invited six female vocalists from various parts of the globe (Stella Chiweshe of Zimbabwe, Brochure Trio of Bulgaria, Nasrin Pourhosseini of Iran, and Equidad Bares of Spain), to join their forces with those of a 40-strong women's choir in a fascinating performance mounted in a Prague church, which was produced, recorded and subsequently released by LOTOS Music on a CD entitled Stars of Ethnic Music in Concert, widely acclaimed as a top-class world music projects.

Likewise definitely worth mentioning are the company s two projects involving the Hradistan folklore music ensemble, each of them with the participation of a prominent guest: first, the internationally-renowned Japanese multi-instrumentalist and percussion wizard Yas-Kaz, an encounter which opened up the way for further projects: the release of the CD, Daybreak, and most recently, in 2002, the CD entitled Cape of Good Hope (with Dizu Plaatjies of South Africa).

All of these titles have met with a lively response among music publishers and record companies worldwide.
